6. CREATING AN ETHICAL STANDARD

Deciding what’s right and what’s wrong isn’t always clear-cut. The subjective nature of ethics creates the requirement for organizations to define their ethical standards. Company leaders often set the instance for ethical standards.The task of the leader is to serve as a task model for workers. this is often a part of the rationale why Martha Stewart’s personal financial dealings are a priority to the corporate bearing her name.

Creating an ethical standard is a vital way for a pacesetter to spread his or her ethical beliefs throughout a corporation. Often the ethical standards will cover a large range of business areas.



Interorganizational Relations

An organization’s ethics policies cover the areas of internal policies, which explain the company’s responsibility to employees. These policies often include equal opportunities, molestation, diversity, and employee safety.

Equal opportunity employment is protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employers from discriminating against prospective employees thanks to their race, religion, gender, or national origin. Today, employers include sexual preference as being protected by this act also. Many companies have enacted policies of affirmative action to extend the utilization opportunities for minorities and women within their organization. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces civil right employment. Employees who feel their civil rights are violated can file a political candidate complaint with this organization.




Sexual harassment lawsuits are much publicized over the past 20 years, and for that reason many companies have enacted stringent policies and comprehensive employee training. These measures have been taken so as to extend employee awareness of what behaviors are not acceptable, moreover on make employees tuned in to their rights for addressing harassment by fellow employees. Diversity within the workplace refers to the numbers of girls and minorities employed by a company. Many organizations hold diversity seminars so as to interrupt down barriers and to extend cultural awareness and understanding among employees.
